The United Way of Abilene, in partnership with United Supermarkets and KTAB/KRBC-TV, invites community members to supply local students with basic tools necessary to do well in the classroom.
School supplies can be dropped in the Stuff the Bus barrels now located near the doors at all four Abilene United Supermarkets. School starts August 23 and August 20 -22 is Tax-Free Weekend. The barrels will be emptied several times between now and September 8, when Day of Caring volunteers help complete the project. The annual drive has provided school supplies for more than 7,500 local students.
“Basic school supplies can make a big difference in classroom success,” said Dixie Bassett, President and CEO of United Way of Abilene. “This drive provides tangible assistance to children who need it, and supports the important work done by our teachers and counselors. Stuff the Bus and join the commitment to putting local students on the path to graduation.”
Students in need of school supplies should speak with their school counselor.
