Mind the Gap… Across Generations

…highlights the importance of teaching our children and families the concept of philanthropy. From a young age, we teach our children about the importance of being grateful for our blessings and caring for others. By teaching these virtues, we model compassion and begin to influence our children’s personal values. Whether it is serving as a volunteer or making a family donation, service and gifts to nonprofits benefit both the giver and those who receive.

Our Campaign Chairs for 2022 include two generations of philanthropists and a third generation acquiring that virtue. Longtime Abilienians, Dr. Gary and Jean Goodnight, are dedicated to making our part of West Texas a better place to live. Dr. Goodnight is a partner with ENT Specialists in Abilene, where he practices as an ENT-Otolaryngologist. Jean and Gary both Mind the Gap by serving numerous non-profits in Abilene. Gary is on the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission Board and is Chairman of the Grace Museum Board of Trustees. Jean is a skilled mentor and current CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocate. She is a former Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters,  board member for Day Nursery of Abilene, and a founding board member of CASA and the Abilene Education Foundation.

Jason and Dr. Ashley Hall model philanthropy for their sons, Webb and Ellis, by taking on essential volunteer roles in Abilene. Jason, an attorney with McMahon Surovick Suttle, P.C.  currently serves as a board member for Goodwill West Texas and is VP for St. John’s Episcopal School Board. Ashley is an Allergist with ENT Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Center and  is a former United Way of Abilene board member and currently serves on the boards of Hendrick Medical Center Foundation and the AEF.

We are excited and grateful to have Gary and Jean Goodnight and Jason and Ashley Hall,  serving as our Campaign Chairs for 2022! Thank you, Webb and Ellis, for making it a true family commitment and adventure!

Regardless of how you teach your children about the big word and the important meaning of philanthropy, we invite you to learn more about our work and the essential partner agencies we support.
