United Way of Abilene is thrilled to bring Imagination Library to children 0-5 years of age in Taylor County. We believe that early literacy is important to the success of a child and Imagination Library will be an instrumental tool in providing literary opportunities during vital years of development.
In Taylor County, only 67% of third-grade students read proficiently.
Established by country music legend Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an international program that mails free books monthly to children from birth to the age of 5.
Enroll your eligible child in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and get a free book every month until their fifth birthday.
HOW IT WORKS
You can enroll your child (0-5 years of age) who lives in the below zipcodes one of three ways:
- Online: register at Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library by clicking the link “register an eligible child” buttons above or below
- In-person: at any of the Abilene Public Library Locations (Main Library: 202 Cedar St, Abilene Texas 79601 | South Library: 4310 Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene, TX 79606 | Mockingbird Branch: 1326 N Mockingbird Ln, Abilene, TX 79603)
- By Mail: download the registration form here and send it to marcus@unitedwayabilene.org or mail it to United Way of Abilene
Once you have registered, United Way of Abilene will approve the registration so your child can begin receiving free books each month until they are ready for kindergarten. Please allow up to 6-8 weeks for your first book to arrive.
ELIGIBILITY
United Way of Abilene launched this effort for Taylor County in 2023 and offers the program in all Taylor County communities, including Clyde, Eula, Baird, Anson, and Coleman. Anyone who lives in one of these ZIP codes may participate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
